geek fun
So Lori has a blog now. The link is to the left, although she doesn't even know how to access it yet. I set it up for her today, and did some other stuff in the midst of it.
I changed the HTML page redirect to one done by apache on the main website.
I did that with;
RedirectMatch ^/(.*)? http://www.disturbed.org:8888/lifetype/blog/the_game_of_life
It seems faster. I also upgraded the blog software to a new version, made the URLs more english-like, and moved it out of my home directory. If anyone sees anything odd, let me know.
The only catch was I had to redirect the XML readers to the new location with;
RedirectMatch ^/rss.php(.*)? /lifetype/rss.php?blogId=1$1
I also finally added an actual RSS link to the main page (below the links on the left).
Apache has some good stuff.. I've never done much with it, pretty powerful.
arizona is on fire
That's my prediction for this summer.
Phoenix has not seen measurable rain for 100 days. That's October since it's rained. The static electricity is ridiculous, and a small spark will pretty much burn the whole state. Tomorrow we will tie the record for the recorded drought, at 101 days.
I wonder if we'll catch up in February like we got ahead last year. Only time will tell.
i'm famous
Something funny happened today. I was going through my mail and I got three different requests for my autograph. Who the heck would want my autograph you might ask? Well, baseball fans!
You see, a guy with the -exact- same name as mine who went to Arizona State and lives a few miles away in Chandler was a major league baseball player. He used to play here in Phoenix for the old minor league Phoenix Firebirds, and went on to play for the Giants, Phillies, Red Sox, and the Pirates. Apparently someone somewhere decided they had tracked him down and started sending me baseball cards to sign. He was a mediocre player but managed to last for 13 years and make just over $4million.
Kind of funny.
fire!
Hang a fake fireplace on your wall;

They have various sizes and shapes. Pretty cool stuff, but no US distributors yet.

you're my boy blue
Well the actor that was idolized by 14 year old boys around the world for KY wrestling two women in the movie Old School didn't get to see 2006.
He died this weekend at 86 years old.

2006
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It's here. How did that happen? 2005 seemed awfully quick. Either I'm getting old or I need to stop and smell the roses more often.
So the third annual New Year's Eve Party at my house was this weekend. The crowd was smaller than the past two years, but an equal amount of drunken fun was had by all. Next year I need to commit earlier so people have more notice. Thanks to everyone who came! To anyone reading this that is angry for not getting an invite, let me know.. I may have simply typo'd an email address. Or maybe I just don't like you?! =)
So there is a ritual act performed by all self involved bloggers (hrm, that's redundant) that I must add to myself; tell a bunch of people who really have no interest a list of resolutions!
--- Work out three hours a week
This should be an hour of weight lifting (which can be done in front of the TV), and a couple hours of bike riding or hiking. I have averaged more than this through the year, but it's been very inconsistent. Consistency is important.
--- Read one book a month
I'm pretty embarrassed that I have to write this one down. I have had a hard time motivating myself to read lately, so that's made this a goal. This can be work, school, or personal. Any book counts as long as it's read in its entirety. With some of the things I have to do for work this year I'm guessing I'll blow right past this..
--- Continue work on the house
With the motivation and advice of Lori I've finally made some decorating progress on the house in the last few months. With the help of my mom, a room is being painted this week. How can I not continue working on the house? The elephant in the room is of course the back yard. Progress is the key. Do something.
So there you have it. Everything you didn't want to know for 2006 =).
So the rest of this weekend was recovering from the party and lounging around with Lori watching the Sopranos and Drawn Together DVDs. I really had fun with her over the weekend.
Well, I hope everyone had a great holiday, I know I did. Unfortunately it's back to real reality with work starting again tomorrow and already being a week in to my second class in school.
My time off counter resets now. Back to 0 =(.
